Interstate 404 (I-404) is a 54.061-mile-long (87.003 km) bypass loop auxiliary Interstate Highway of Interstate 4, traveling through the eastern suburbs of Orlando, Florida and carrying a hidden designation of State Road 417 (FL 417) forming the eastern beltway around the city. It is the only Interstate Highway in Florida that is entirely a tolled limited-access expressway. The expressway has three freeway names depending on the location, such as the Central Florida GreeneWay, the Seminole County Expressway, and the Orlando East Bypass.
I-404 is signed north and south as in the Orlando metropolitan area, I-4, the parent Interstate, travels in that direction, while I-4 is signed east and west everywhere. Considerably, the southern terminus of I-404 is in Celebration at I-4, where the section is called the Southern Connector, run by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (FTE), extending to the International Drive interchange. The northern terminus of I-404 is in Sanford at I-4, where this section is called the Seminole Expressway, also run by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise.
I-404 travels through the counties of Osceola, Orange, and Seminole. I-404 is also maintained by Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX). I-404 was built in 1988 in December as State Road 417. Twenty years later, in 2008, it is then signed Interstate 404, with FL 417 becoming a hidden designation.
