Interstate 18 (I-18) is an intrastateInterstate Highway located entirely within the U.S. state of California. The interstate is physically a north-south highway instead of running the east-west direction. The western (northern) terminus is in San Jose, meeting at a huge interchange with I-280, I-680, and US 101 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The eastern (southern) terminus is in Barstow, meeting with I-15 and the western terminus of I-40. I-18 connects other major cities in California including Modesto, Jerseydale, Fresno, Visalia, and California City. I-18 has two auxiliary routes. Interstate 118 (I-118) is a spur connecting from Hylesville west to State Route 180 (CA 180) in Fresno, and Interstate 518 (I-518) is a spur connecting from Modesto north to State Route 120 (CA 120) in Manteca. Interstate 18 has three freeway names within the regions or major cities in California. Between San Jose and Modesto is the San Jose Freeway, between Modesto and Fresno is the Fresno Freeway, and between Fresno and Barstow is the Yosemite Freeway.
